Teaching Deep Culture in Elementary Classroom

June 14/2018 TESOL103 LESSON 8 Why should a teacher teach deep culture? according to Simonton, exposure to cultural diversity is one of the reasons why certain civilizations are more developed than others... The highly creative people, according to Simonton, tended to live in circumstances where different cultures interacted and, as a result, likely rubbed off on each other.” Exposure to cultural diversity may force children and adults to form new neural connections in the brain to be able to sufficiently to interpret meaning... The above lines underline the importance of cultural diversity, but now, my question is  HOW SHOULD TEACH CULTURE IN A DEEPER WAY? ARE THERE STEPS TO FOLLOW?

Culture and Psychology

June 7, 2018 TESOL 103 LESSON 7 Culture is somewhat connected or linked with Psychology. The use of subconscious can be more frequent in some cultures more than others. I believe that culture has a significant influence on people. “ The culture into which one is born has a significant effect on one's self-esteem. Because one is born with certain talents, no matter what. And in certain cultures, those talents will be exalted, and in certain cultures, those talents will be minimized or even debased. And so there may be some people who were born in the wrong culture for them.”

Cross-Cultural Students in the Classroom

June 7, 2018 TESOL 103 LESSON 7 "If you have African American students that are being more active in class than your white students, you have to realize it may not be because they're just bad students. It may be because they’re following their paradigms of being very expressive... I f an Asian student is not very participatory, don't worry about that. Because their culture, they're less expressive. They're taught to be very respectful of the teachers, and sometimes that high degree of respect will limit the comments that they may make in class because they're afraid that they might show that they don’t know something that maybe the teacher didn't teach well enough, or maybe they're questioning the teacher's opinion on something. Questioning what the teacher says would rarely be done in Asia. Disagreeing with a teacher would be rarely done. Some Asian students will go so far as to not even look the teacher in the eyes because that would

Difference in Manners

June 5, 2018 TESOL 103 LESSON 7 Manner is the way people according to their culture do things, like covering one’s mouth to yawn, stretching in public, putting one’s hands in their pockets, or blowing one’s nose in public etc. TESOL teachers should be aware of the difference in manners in order to better help their students not hurting one another. I finally realize that teaching is not only helping the learner to know what they did not know before but it is much more than that. A classroom where cultural differences are not taken into consideration will not be a loving and respectful atmosphere, no will pay attention to their classmates, to what can hurt and what cannot etc. Based on what I learned about difference in manners, I feel that I need to pay attention to my students’ culture, difference in their manner of doing thing; I will teach them tolerance and respect for others’ believes and education (view).

Personal Space Differences

June 2, 2018 TESOL 103 LESSON 6 "Personal space is sacred." who does not like privacy?  "Hey buddy... did you realize you're sitting in my seat."   I, personally, really like privacy; that does not mean that I do not like to share... At church, almost every member has a place where they feel more comfortable, some families in my ward seem to have their own spaces/seats; every time they come to church, at the sacrament meeting they choose the same places, and the nicest thing is that no one else will sit in their seats.  I really enjoyed learning about Zone Distances because it will help me a lot in my professional life.  I understand that some people like larger spaces than others which is normal, but it can be dangerous for a disciple of Jesus Christ because those around us may think that we need more personal space because we pretend to be superior and so on.  I ignored those things. Now I am going to pay more attention to as many parad
